Quick Start Does Not Hold Up As Marietta Ousts John Carroll From OAC Baseball Tourney
Milanovich 050909
All-tournament selection Adam Milanovich drove in three of John Carroll's seven runs in what would turn out to be the Blue Streaks' final game of the 2009 campaign
Box Score

John Carroll scored twice in each of the first three innings, but the quick start would not hold up as Marietta rallied to oust the Blue Streaks from the OAC Baseball Tournament, 8-7, Saturday afternoon in Tiffin, Ohio.

Tim O'Brien's two-run home run in the bottom of the first wiped out an early 1-0 deficit, and two unearned runs in the second would push the John Carroll advantage up to 4-1.

The Pioneers would tie the contest in the top of the third with a three-run home run by Casey Levens, but RBI hits by Adam Milanovich and Michael Carbo would put the Streaks back in front, 6-4, in the bottom of the fourth.

Marietta would chip away with single runs in the sixth and seventh, then took the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth. Levens picked up the fifth of his five RBI to break the 6-6 tie, and then an error led to the Pioneers' eighth and final run.

JCU would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the eighth, as Milanovich would lead the frame off with a double, and later score on a Michael Krainz single. But that would be the final tally of the game for either team.

Milanovich would be John Carroll's lone selection to the OAC all-tournament team.

With the loss, John Carroll's 2009 season comes to an end as the Blue Streaks will finish with a record of 24-12. The .667 winning percentage posted by the 2009 Blue Streaks is the second highest in the history of the JCU program, bettered only by the 1985 squad (21-9, .700).
