Head Coach Matt Lenhart addressing the team before the start of day two of the OAC Championships
Julia Adams (Erie, PA, N.W. PA Collegiate Academy) and the Men's 800 Free Relay were the highlight providers on a night that was otherwise full of near misses as John Carroll stands in second place after day two of the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Friday in Akron.
Adams broke the OAC record and made an NCAA "B" cut with her win in womens 100 Back. Her time of 59.50 and her prelim time of 59.79 stand as the only two sub-miinute times by an OAC women's swimmer in the history of the conference in this event.
The men's 800 Free Relay turned in one of the most electric performances of the evening, as Jimmy Ranallo (Willoughby, OH, Notre-Dame Cathedral Latin)'s anchor leg carried JCU to a win in a time of 6:58.04. Ranallo teammed with Alex Vereshchagin (Solon, OH, Solon), Drew Edson (Birmingham, MI, Brother Rice ) and Eric Davis (Canfield, OH, Canfield) for the win.
Other All-OAC swims were turned in by Adams, Melissa Fillmore (Woodbridge, CT, Amity Regional), Katie Mathews (Columbus, OH, St. Francis Desales) and Liana Sved (Loudonville, OH, Ashland) in the 200 Medley Relay (2nd), Brittany Krauth (North Royalton, OH, Padua Franciscan) in the women's 400 IM (3rd), Davis in the men's 100 Fly (2nd by .02 of a second to Ohio Northern's Garrett Dauch), Rachael Mizner (Willoughby, OH, Willoughby South) in the women's 200 Free (2nd), Ranallo in the men's 200 Free (3rd), and Vereshchagin in the men's 100 Breast (3rd).
