Sean gill was one of the many young Streaks to place third in his weight class at the OAC Championships
Although John Carroll's official colors are blue and gold, “Green” was the operative color for the 2009-2010 JCU wrestling roster as it competed throughout the season.
Saturday at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, the “Green” Streaks grew up a bit.
Senior
Ben Adams, the least green of the Blue Streaks, won his third consecutive individual title as John Carroll garnered a fourth place finish at the league championship event held at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio.
Heidelberg, with three champions, won its fifth straight title with 101.0 points. The Purple Raiders of Mount Union also had three champions and proved to be the Student Princes' closest competition as they finished with 89.5 points in second place. Ohio Northern (71.0) and JCU (48.5) were the next two schools in line.
Results
Adams claimed his third consecutive conference title at 184 pounds as he took out senior Ed Bizorik by a score of 9-2 in the title match. Adams faced Bizorik less than three weeks ago in Tiffin, with much the same result as he was victorious by technical fall at 7:00 (16-1).
By virtue of his title, Adams will advance to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships for the third time, which take place March 5-6 at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Blue Streaks had four placewinners in
David Malkus (141 pounds),
Connor Suba (149 pounds),
Sean Gill (165 pounds) and
Alec Barker at (285)
Malkus took out Tim Brown of Wilmington College 8-0 in the third place final.
Suba, whose lone loss was by a one-point margin to eventual champion Richie Clark of Mount Union, beat #1 seeded Mick Letcher of Ohio Northern in a close 7-4 finish.
Gill, the #5 seed at 165 pounds, beat Baldwin-Wallace's Korey Leonhard by a score of 5-2.
Barker, who came into the bracket unseeed, undoubtedly left the competition with much more respect than when he entered it as he decisively handed ONU's Justin Southwick a 7-2 loss.
