Ritchie, Meyer, And Sweeney Honored For Student-Athlete Contributions As Members Of National Academic All-Jesuit Basketball Team

Three John Carroll University basketball players were recently accorded recogniton by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.

Senior guard Emilee Ritchie was named to the 2011-12 National Academic All-Jesuit Women's Basketball Team, and seniors Joe Meyer and Conor Sweeney were selected as Honorable Mention performers on the men's side.

Ritchie earned a 3.86 GPA in Biology, in addition to averaging 10.7 points, 2.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game on the court in 2011-12.  She connected on 29 3-pointers and led the team with an 80.4% clip from the free throw line.  In her career, Ritchie helped lead the Blue Streaks to a 2010-11 OAC Tournament runner-up finish, and her 120 career 3-pointers are third-best in program history.

An Exercise Science major carrying a 3.56 GPA, Joe Meyer has been a major factor for JCU men's basketball for the past four seasons.  Alongside fellow recipient Conor Sweeney, Meyer was a 2011-12 Academic All-OAC selection.

The senior from Mentor, Ohio started all 25 games for the Blue Streaks in 2011-12, scoring 19 points on two different occasions.  He won three OAC Player of the Week awards in his career and finished with 996 total points.

Sweeney was fourth on the squad in scoring at 8.0 points per game, and contributed 1.3 steals and 3.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 78.7% from the free throw stripe.  He achieved a 3.65 GPA, majoring in Finance and Economics.

Meyer and Sweeney are part of JCU's senior basketball class that finished 83-28, winning three OAC regular season titles and one OAC tournament title.  The team reached the NCAA Tournament twice.

The National Academic All-Jesuit teams are selected -- regardless of division -- from the 28 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States.
