Geoff Hemlinger had come close the year before to directing an incredible comeback win over John Carroll. In this game, the Yellow Jackets' senior quarterback delivered. With his team trailing 26-14 in the fourth quarter, Hemlinger drove his team twice downfield (both drives covering at least 60 yards) for touchdowns, the last one capped by an eight-yard pass to Josh Purdy with 1:16 remaining. JCU had one last chance to escape with a "W", but missed a potential game-winning field goal with seven seconds left.
