Pat Tatom will begin his second season as an assistant coach in the Blue Streak baseball program. With his experience and knowledge of the game, he is a great contribution to the program.
Tatom recently retired as President and CEO of WCI Steel Inc., in Warren, Ohio. He began his career in sales with the LTV Steel Company, in Cleveland in 1976 and joined WCI Steel as General Manager of Sales in 1988. Progressing through the ranks, Pat was named President and CEO in 2004, the position from which he retired in July of 2007.
Before his days in the steel industry, Tatom was a professional baseball player. He signed a professional baseball contract out of Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, Connecticut as a pitcher in the Oakland A’s organization. He played six seasons in the minors, and last played at the Double A level for the Southern League Birmingham A’s. Pat was also a member of 40-man Major League Roster of the World Champion A’s in 1972 and 1973.
In the off-season Tatom attended Marietta College earning a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration in 1976. At Marietta he was an assistant to the legendary coach Don Scaly. He coordinated their fall program as well as played a key coaching role in the 1975 season when the Pioneers compiled a 44-5 record losing to Florida Southern in the final game of the Division II World Series.
