Faught was a two-year letterwinner on the tennis courts for JCU, and co-captain his senior year. In 1970, he was the PAC #1 singles champion and posted a regular season record of 10-0 that year. The year before he also had a winning record at #1 singles.

Faught also played #1 doubles as a junior and senior. His senior season, he played in the NCAA Small College Tournament (8-1 record, team finished 39th).
