Bowman was a three-time All-American at JCU. He also was a Division III National Champion at 177 pounds in 1975. Other notable accolades include: two-time Division III runner-up, three-time National Catholic Invitational champion and four-time PAC champion.

Bowman finished with a career record of 80-15-0 and a career winning percentage of .842, which ranks fifth in school history.
