Brian Cochran had a senior season for the ages. In 1989, when John Carroll captured the Ohio Athletic Conference championship and made its first NCAA Division III playoff appearance, Cochran was a first team all-conference selection in addition to being named to the first team Gazette All-American team.
That tremendous senior season, which included a team-best 7.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss, had the Blue Streaks rank 10th in the nation in scoring defense and among the top 25 in the nation in total defense and rushing defense.
In his two years as a starter, JCU forged a record of 16-4, and held 18 of their 20 opponents to 20 points or less.
