Hector Marinaro arrived at John Carroll after a legendary professional soccer career, and departed as the winningest coach in program history.
Marinaro guided the Blue Streaks to five Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championships (2007, 2016, 2018, 2019, spring 2021), five OAC regular season crowns (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, spring 2021), and five NCAA Tournament appearances (2007, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).
Marinaro earned the OAC Coach of the Year award four times (2016, 2018, 2019, spring 2021) and his staff was named the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Great Lakes Region Staff of the Year. Marinaro tallied 72 All-OAC selections, 61 Academic All-OAC selections, five All-Americans (including his son Jesse ‘18), and four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
Over the course of his 15 seasons at the helm, Marinaro posted a record of 185-82-30, including 98-23-13 in OAC play. In 11 of his 15 seasons, JCU posted 10 or more wins. In 2005, Marinaro was inducted into the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame after a 21-year professional playing career as the all-time leading scorer in Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) history
