Jim Mitchell was a two-time All-American defensive back for John Carroll.
He was a starter and captain on JCU’s 1989 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship team, the first JCU team to win an OAC crown. The hard-hitting safety helped the Blue Streaks qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time in 1989.
Mitchell was named the most valuable defensive back in 1988 and 1989, finishing third on the team in tackles in 1988 with 65 and third again in 1989 with 75 tackles.
In 1988, Mitchell earned AP and Pizza Hut Honorable Mention All-American honors, and in 1989, he garnered Football News and Pizza Hut Honorable Mention All-American recognition.
A three-year letterwinner, Mitchell finished his career with 62 solo tackles, 128 assists, five interceptions, 15 passes defended and two fumbles recovered. At the time of his induction, he also stood fifth in interception return yards (153).
