Kovach was a Defensive End, Tackle, and Fullback from 1960 to 1963. He helped the Blue Streaks go undefeated for two back-to-back seasons (1962 & 1963).

He was named All-Catholic All-American and Small College All-American in the 1962-63 season. He was an All-Pac selection from 1961-1963.
