John O'Rourke, was the ace of the pitching staff that helped JCU reach 25 wins in a season for the first time in JCU baseball program history. That 1998 squad also reached the championship game of the OAC Tournament

His 1998 season, in which he was fifth nationally with 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings, earned him Rawlings All-American honorable mention status. Three times he was named to the All-Mideast Region team, and was a selection on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team the same number of times (first team twice).

At the time of his graduation, he held seven pitching records, including most wins in a season and a career. A team captain as a senior, O'Rourke was named JCU's Most Valuable Player in 1999.
