Joe Schmidt (class of 1990) won more matches (122) than any other wrestler in the history of the John Carroll program at the time of his graduation.
A four-time national qualifier and three-time All-American, Schmidt was twice a national runner up and reached the national semifinals in each of his final three years.
He won the Midwest regional title in 1988 and 1989, a PAC title in 1988, and an OAC title in 1990. Other career titles included the Ohio Collegiate, RIT and Mount Union in 1986-87; the National Catholic in 1987-88, the Southern California and Ohio Northern in 1988-89, and the Ohio Northern and National Catholic in 1989-90. Schmidt's career record of 122-24-1 includes a mark of 37-3 as a senior.
At the time of his induction he was still the owner of the John Carroll season (15) and career (39) pins records.
