A two-year captain and four-year letterman, Mark Hawald was one of only two John Carroll wrestlers to ever achieve Division I All-American status. Hawald was a two-time Division III national champion, as well as a three-time PAC champion with a career record of 86-15-2.

He was inducted into the hall of fame in 1987. He weighed in at 134 pounds and finished his career with 86 victories -- the most in program history at that time.
