Salvatore (Mike) Artale was named All-Big Four halfback each season from 1932-1934 during his career with the Blue Streaks. During that stretch, he also earned All-Ohio and Small College All-American honors while helping John Carroll to a 15-8-5 record averaging nearly 18 points per game.
Artale still holds the school record for punt returns in a game with nine set in 1933 against Baldwin Wallace. During a game the year earlier in 1932, he scored the lone touchdown in a gritty 7-6 victory over rival Wittenberg.
In 1995, Artale was named to the "Pre-War Era" team (1920-1942) as part of the 75th anniversary of JCU football.
