For the second time in as many years, the road to the Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament title is slated to run through University Heights.
The John Carroll Blue Streaks, by virtue of winning its second consecutive regular season crown, will be the top seed in the 2010 OAC Tournament. Play gets underway with quarterfinal round games scheduled for Wednesday, February 24.
John Carroll will match-up with eighth seeded Marietta College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. Other quarterfinal round pairings will pit #2 seed Wilmington against #7 Mount Union, #3 Capital against #6 Baldwin-Wallace, and #4 Ohio Northern against #5 Heidelberg.
The top four seeds will host the four quarterfinal round games, with the winners advancing to the semifinal round played at the site of the highest remaining seed on Friday, February 26. The championship game will be played at the same site as the semifinal round on Saturday, February 27.
As the top seed, John Carroll -- which is seeking its fourth tournament championship in the last eight years -- will have the right to serve as host as long as it remains alive in the playoffs. JCU was also tournament champion in 2003, 2004 and 2009.
In its quarterfinal round game, John Carroll face a Marietta College team it swept during the regular season. On December 19 in University Heights, John Carroll routed the Pioneers 96-57. The second time around in Marietta on January 23 was much closer with the Blue Streaks holding on for a 70-68 win.
