Spagna, Lapaglia, And Herringshaw Pick Up All-Region Honors For JCU Baseball

Mitchell Herringshaw was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region Third Team
Three Blue Streaks earned All-Mideast Region honors for their tremendous play during a 2013 baseball season in which John Carroll placed second in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 13-5 league record and 25-16 overall mark.

Junior Jimmy Spagna doubled up with first team selections to the D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region lists, while freshman Aaron Lapaglia (second team) and junior Mitchell Herringshaw (third team) both earned spots on the ABCA/Rawlings squad.

Emerging as John Carroll's top power hitter in 2013, Spagna led the team and was second in the Ohio Athletic Conference in home runs (seven) and was third in runs batted in (48) this season, while hitting .352.  His efforts earned him first team All-OAC.  Defensively, Spagna accumulated a .988 fielding percentage at first base, only committing three errors all year.  His performance netted him a pair of All-Mideast Region honors.

Lapaglia turned heads around the region in his first season as a Blue Streak pitcher.  In 13 appearances, the freshman compiled an 8-1 record and a 2.52 earned run average.  His win total tied for the OAC lead, his ERA was fourth overall, and he was named second team All-Conference.  Lapaglia allowed just 15 earned runs and struck out 34 in 53.2 innings of work.

No stranger to accolades, Herringshaw continued to cement his name in JCU baseball lore in 2013, batting .400 on his way to first team All-OAC and third team ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region.  The Blue Streak third baseman, Herringshaw knocked the second-most doubles in program history (20) for a single season, while adding two home runs and 38 RBI.

The ABCA/Rawlings teams are selected by a committee of eight coaches throughout the country who are responsible for naming All-Region teams, All-Americans, Coaches of the Year and Gold Glove recipients.  D3baseball.com honorees were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.
