One of the more unique opportunities afforded to John Carroll football players from an all-star game perspective was the annual Tazón De Estrellas ("Bowl of the Stars"), a postseason football game sponsored by
Global Football and staged in Mexico from 1997 until 2017 collegiate featuring a Division III collegiate all-star team against a Mexican all-star team.
It all started in 1997, and the first representative from John Carroll was none other than London Fletcher. In that very first game -- then known as the Aztec Bowl -- Fletcher led the United States team with nine tackles and was named game's Most Valuable Player. He was the team captain of a squad that won 42-41 in in Toluca, Mexico.
Fletcher is one of four four individuals who played in the Aztec Bowl/Tazón De Estrellas who went on to play in the NFL, joining Fred Jackson (Coe College - Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks), Jason Trusnik (Ohio Northern University - New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins) and Clint Kriewaldt (UW-Stevens Point - Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers).
The game was played in various cities and stadiums throughout Mexico, and featured a week-long event of team practices and community service activities, and the game itself was hosted in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd.
During that span of 21 years, John Carroll coaches and players played a prominent part in the annual game. Former Blue Streak mentor Regis Scafe was often a part of the coaching staff for the Division III all stars.
The player list includes the following Blue Streaks:
- London Fletcher (1997)
- Tom Rini (1999)
- Larry Holmes (2000)
- Joe Indriolo (2003)
- Scott Greenberg (2004)
- Joseph Konrad (2006)
- Ken Bevington (2009)
- Frank Ross and Phil Bokovitz (2010)
- C.J. Seitzinger and Devin Martin (2011)

Fletcher and Ross were named to the all-time All-Tazon Team in 2017. Ross competed on the 2010 Stars & Stripes team, hauling in seven passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns to defeat the CONADEIP All-Stars 48-7 at La Congeladora ("The Freezer") at the Tec de Monterrey Toluca campus. The touchdown passes Ross caught covered 45, 21 and 11 yards, and he received the Jim Hershberger MVP Award.
