Spotting a rival six points and then falling behind by nine is not the recommended formula for success, but the visiting John Carroll Blue Streaks had the math right in the end for a 22-18 win over Baldwin Wallace Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in Berea.

JCU offered up a free six points at 125 pounds to the host Yellow Jackets, and then, following a Jeff Holy win at 133, gave up another six at 141 with a loss by fall.

The tide turned at 149 with a major decision by Dan Mirman and a decision by Terner Gott at 157.

John Carroll still trailed 15-10 entering the final four bouts when Vincent Jiovenetta scored perhaps the biggest win over the night when he pinned Ben Lebrun at the 5:16 mark to give the Streaks their first lead of the evening.

A loss at 184 put the hosts back out front, but Bryan Steinmetz -- wrestling for the first time all season at 197 -- came through with a decision to set up a winner take all finale.

Will Porter came through when his team needed him most, shocking highly touted freshman Joe Bedford with a 3-1 sudden victory at 285.

John Carroll, which is now 31-3 all-time against its crosstown and league rival, improved to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.

Baldwin Wallace fell to 4-5 and 1-4 in league action.
