Frank O'Brien

Frank O'Brien enters his 20th season as an assistant coach with the men's basketball team in 2023-24.

In March 2022, O'Brien was honored with the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) Hall of Honor Award, "awarded to those individuals who have provided exemplary service to Ohio High School Basketball." O'Brien has been serving as the treasurer for the local coaches association (GCBCA) for over 25 years.

A 1977 graduate of John Carroll, O'Brien began his coaching career shortly after. In addition to 10 seasons as an assistant coach with Saint Ignatius High School, O'Brien made stops at St. Peter Chanel, North Royalton, Villa Angela-St. Joseph and Garfield Heights before landing at Holy Name High School in 1996.

After three seasons as the junior varsity head coach, O'Brien was named Holy Name's leading man in 2000 and recorded a 48-38 record in four seasons. Over the course of his 24 years, he was involved with 11 teams that made the Sweet 16 of the Ohio state tournament, and two that reached the Final Four.  He was an assistant coach with Villa Angela-St. Joseph when the Vikings won the 1994 state title.

O'Brien was also the Director of the Green Wave Basketball Camp, helping the camp triple its enrollment over a period of four years.
