Tom Arth

Tom Arth '03 is in his fourth season as the head football coach of John Carroll University.

Arth was named the 17th head football coach in program history on Dec. 4, 2012.  

In his four years as head coach, he has amassed a record of 39-7, including three appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

On Nov. 12, 2016, Arth's program earned their first outright OAC title since 1989 with a 31-28 victory over then-#1 Mount Union.

Arth, along with Jerry Schweickert (1965-76), Frank Amato (1984-86) and Tony DeCarlo (1987-98), are the only John Carroll graduates to serve as head coach of Blue Streaks football team.

Arth was recognized for his achievements as a record-setting quarterback at John Carroll when he was inducted in to the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 27, 2013.

Arth and his wife Lauren ('03) have five children: Caroline, Tommy, Kate, Patrick and Lizzie. 

2016 Accomplishments
-Ohio Athletic Conference champions.
-First OAC title since 1994, first outright since 1989.
-OAC Coach of the Year
-15 All-OAC selections
-Third NCAA appearance in four years.

2015 Accomplishments 
-JCU wins eight games, marking first time the program has done so in three straight seasons since 1996-98. 
-Seven All-OAC first team selections
-Nine OAC Players of the Week.
-David Porter earns a spot on the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, the most esteemed off-the-field honor in college football.

2014 Accomplishments
-11-2 record, including an 8-1 OAC record and perfect 7-0 mark at home. 
-First back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament since 2003, Arth's senior year. 
-Advanced all of the way to the quarterfinals in 2014 in one of the most successful seasons in program history.
-Ended the year ranked fifth in the D3football.com Top 25, matching the highest-ever national ranking by the Blue Streaks.
-Four All-American honorees.
-13 All-Region honorees
-20 All-OAC players, a school record.
-15 team and 12 individual single-season records were matched or set.
-First in D-III with 12 blocked kicks, 10 of which came on punts.
-Top 10 statistical finish in average points for (fourth) and average points against (tenth).
-Second-most points in school history with an 80-0 shutout over Marietta.
-Brody Zangaro repeats as a second team Capital One Academic All-America® honoree.
-Ten players earned Academic All-OAC honors.

2013 Accomplishments
-9-2, including 8-1 in conference play.
-Arth became the first former D3football.com All-American to earn D3football.com Regional Coach of the Year honors.
-Arth was the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year, the All-Ohio Division III Coach of the Year and the OAC Co-Coach of the Year.
-Won his first nine games - the most by a JCU football head coach to start his career.
-The Blue Streaks ranked as high as ninth in the national polls.
-The Blue Streaks scored 30 or more points in eight games in 2013.
-The Blue Streaks orchestrated four shutouts.
-Second in scoring defense (9.1 points per game)
-Second in total defense (229.1 yards per game).
-Kresimir Ivkovic was a finalist for the prestigious Fred Mitchell Award and a Associated Press Little All-America second team honoree.
-Six players earned Academic All-OAC distinction including Brody Zangaro who was a second team Capital One Academic All-America® honoree.

Playing Career - Professional
-After graduating from John Carroll in 2003, Arth signed a free agent contract with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts
-Spent three seasons as a back-up to quarterback Peyton Manning.
-Had stints with the Green Bay Packers, as well as NFL Europe and the Arena Football League.

-Arth set 18 John Carroll football records as its quarterback
-Earned unanimous All-American honors as a junior and senior.
-In 2002, he guided the Blue Streaks to a 12-2 record, an East region championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division III national semifinals for the first time in program history.
