Brandon Staley enters his third season as the John Carroll defensive coordinator in 2016.
Staley lives with his wife Amy (‘14G) and son Colin in University Heights.

2013
- OAC Co-Assistant Coach of the Year.
-Blue Streaks advanced to the NCAA Division III Football Championship for the first time since 2002.
-In Defense gave up just 9.1 points and 228.4 yards per game, while forcing 27 turnovers.
-Tutored second team D3football.com All-America honoree Randy Greenwood.
-Five of his charges earn All-OAC honors.
-Defense ranked third nationally in third-down defense, second in red-zone defense, third in pass efficiency defense and 16th in rushing defense.
2015
-Ranked 12th nationally in scoring defense, averaging 13.6 per game
-Ranked 9th in passing yards allowed, averaging 154.6 per game
-Defense posted a top-15 mark in total defense, ranking 14th with 269.9 yards per game.
-Coached 10 All-OAC players
-Coach for David Porter, a 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member.
-Defense held opponents to 14 or less points in eight games, including two shutouts.
-Second in the country in sacks per game, with 4.50.
Defensive Coordinator / Linebackers Coach - James Madison (2014)
-Helped the Dukes to a 9-4 record and the program’s first FCS playoff appearance in three years.
-Defense ranked 11th nationally, forcing 28 turnovers.
-Averaged 2.85 sacks per game, a mark 13th in the FCS.
-Sage Harold ended 2014 seventh nationally in tackles for loss per game and eighth in sacks per game.
-Defensive Back Dean Marlowe (Carolina Panthers) participated in the East-West Shrine game.
Defensive Graduate Assistant - University of Tennessee (2012)
-In charge of inside linebackers as well as special teams assistant.
-Coached AJ Johnson, who led the SEC and ranked fourth in the NCAA with 138 tackles.
-Coached Herman Lathers, who was selected for the NFLPA All-Star Game in California.
-Coached Curt Maggitt DL (Indianapolis Colts)
Associate Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator - Hutchinson (KS) Community College (2010-11)
-Additionally, Staley held duties of linebackers coach and special teams assistant.
-The team won two Salt Bowl championships
-Hutchinson went 10-2 and finished the season ranked No. 5 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in 2010.
-9-3 and ranked No. 9 in 2011.
-Nine Division I signees - most notably, Cordarrelle Patterson, the eventual first-round NFL draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings.
-Coached Markus Golden OLB (2nd round pick of the Arizona Cardinals), Cordarrelle Patterson WR/KR (1st round pick of the Minnesota Vikings), Devondre Campbell LB (4th round pick of the Atlanta Falcons), Toby Johnson DL (Minnesota Vikings).
Assistant Coach - University of St. Thomas (2009)
-Went 11-2 and reached the NCAA quarterfinals.
-Served the program as its defensive line and assistant special teams coach.
Graduate Assistant - Northern Illinois University (2006-08)
-Part of two postseason bowls (2006 Poinsettia vs Texas Christian, 2008 Independence vs Louisiana Tech).
-Defensive graduate assistant working with the secondary (2006-07) and linebackers (2008) and special teams (all three years).
-In 2008, NIU's defense led the Mid-American Conference and was ranked among the top 20 nationally in scoring defense, pass defense and total defense.
Playing Career
-Collegiate playing career at Dayton and Mercyhurst.
-Staley prepped in Northeast Ohio at Perry High School.
-Guided Perry to a conference title and a quarterfinal round appearance in the OHSAA playoffs as a senior quarterback.
-First team News-Herald, first team Plain Dealer, first team all-district and honorable mention All-Ohio.
-Lake County Touchdown Club Offensive Player of the Year.
