There are two aspects of the 2007 season that the John Carroll women's soccer team has grown quite weary of -- injuries and overtime matches.

The effect of the one aspect is starting to take its toll on the other, as an undermanned Blue Streak squad battled hard bet fell by a 2-1 score in overtime to Heidelberg College this afternoon in Tiffin, Ohio.

Minus its stopper and starting goalkeeper, John Carroll had to get out to a lead and accomplished that when Val Korb drilled in an unassisted shot from outside of 25 yards in the 35th minute.

The 1-0 lead would hold up until midway through the second half.  Carolyn Gross notched the equalizer in the 69th minute.

Despite 12 shots on goal (including two in extra time) and 19 overall, John Carroll would be unable to put the match away. Instead, it would be a second goal by Gross just over three minutes into the first overtime period that sealed the win for the 'Berg.

The loss drops JCU's record to 5-9-1 overall, but more importantly, 1-4-1 in the OAC with just three games left on the regular season schedule. The Blue Streaks slip to eighth place with four points -- two behind Heidelberg and Marietta who are tied for sixth with six points each. Only the top six teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the OAC Tournament.

This was John Carroll's fifth overtime match of the year, and its record in those matches is now 0-4-1.
