John Carroll dominated in nearly every statistical category, but needed a goal late in regulation by freshman Betsy Haigh to force overtime in what would become a 1-1 tie against Mount Union in Alliance Tuesday night.
John Carroll, which played its seventh overtime match this evening, trailed 1-0 after Mount Union got a goal by Christin Handley in the 65th minute. It was the Purple Raiders first goal scored since September 29.
The Blue Streaks were two minutes away from a devastating loss when Haigh came through with an unassisted goal at the 88:20 mark.
JCU had the only four shots in overtime but could not produce the game winner.
The tie moves the Blue Streaks' record to 5-9-3 overall and 1-4-3 in the OAC.
John Carroll will need a victory at home over Marietta Friday to entertain any hopes to make the six-team OAC postseason tournament that begins next week.
