The John Carroll women's soccer team had its season come to an unceremonious end this afternoon in Westerville, as host Otterbein scored three times in the first half to quell any hopes of an upset in a 5-1 loss that ended the Blue Streaks season.
JCU had hoped to ride the momentum of a 3-0 victory over Marietta on the final day of the regular season into this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament. But the Cardinals were ready from the get go, outshooting the Blue Streaks, 19-3.
Rebecca Bowser opened the scoring with a header of a cross in the 18th minutes, then Sara Vasbinder followed with her own header five minutes later to open a 2-0 advantage.
Lauren Capelle provided the back-breaker, scoring within four minutes of halftime to stake the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.
Trailing 4-0 midway through the second half, John Carroll got on the board when Elizabeth Daigler drilled home a goal from 20 feet away.
Otterbein would tally its fifth goal of the match less than 100 seconds later to cap the scoring.
John Carroll's season ends with a record of 6-10-3. The Blue Streaks will lose just two seniors -- Cara Pizzurro and Natty Naso -- off this year's roster.
