Key Momentum Shift In Second Game Sends JCU To Defeat Against Muskingum

JCU was on the attack early thanks to 20 kills in game one vs. Muskingum

Attempting to end their 11-year losing streak to Muskingum, the Blue Streak volleyball team started off the match with a win in game one. But history would continue to march on as the Muskies gained control late in the second game to win their 15th match in a row over John Carroll in four games.

JCU dominated Muskingum in game one and led start to finish for a 30-22 win. The Blue Streaks had 20 kills and a .429 hitting percentage in that opening frame.

The Blue Streaks held the lead for most of the second game as well. JCU was ahead 24-22 when the match would experience its monumental momentum shift. Allie Buckohr would win seven consecutive points in her service thanks to a pair of aces and the net play of Jessica McKenzie (two kills and one block) as the Muskies raced to a 29-24 lead. Muskingum ultimately prevailed, 30-25.

From there it was all Muskies, as they closed out the match with a 30-18 win in game three and a 30-23 victory in game four.

Buckohr tallied the match-high in kills with 18 and chipped in with 11 digs. McKenzie and Gretchen Van der Sluijs each had 15 kills on the night.

Meagan Gambone led the Blue Streaks with 14 kills with Kate Schafer (13) and Laura Isbell (12) were close behind. Meredith McDiarmid finished the match with 46 assists.

The Muskies, which finished the match with a .327 hitting percentage, grabbed their first OAC win of the season to improve their record to 15-7 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.

John Carroll, which ended up with a .195 hitting percentage for the match, now stands at 10-12 overall and 1-2 in league play.
