The John Carroll men's soccer team remained undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference by overcoming an early mistake to knock off Muskingum, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.

It would be Muskingum who started out the scoring on this sun-splashed day in University Heights. Sophomore Lalo Quiroz received a pass from senior Paul Lafyatis through a clutter of players in front of the JCU goal and zipped a shot that clipped the post and bounded in just 1:35 into the match. 

Efforts on both ends of the field picked up for the Blue Streaks and juniors Scott McKinney and Louis Kastelic would help the Blue Streaks cash in.

The game-tying goal would occur in the ninth minute as McKinney def Kastelic on the left wing. Kastelic lobbed a great pass to senior teammate Alex Bernot who would pop a quick shot for a John Carroll goal. It was Bernot's sixth goal of the year.

The scoring would continue for the Streaks as McKinney would record his sixth goal of the season in the 21st minute. McKinney received a great thru ball from Bernot, and beat the Muskingum keeper with a low shot to the right.

Despite dominating play throughout, John Carroll would not breathe easy until it was able to build upon its 2-1 halftime lead. In the 58th minute of the game, Blue Streak freshman Joe Ciacchi found teammate Kyle Buxman for another John Carroll goal to push the advantage to 3-1 and create the breathing room needed.

John Carroll's defense only allowed the Muskies six shots on goal the entire game compared to the 24 JCU attempts on goal.

The Blue Streaks improved their record 6-5 overall and 3-0 in the OAC. John Carroll remains in a first place tie with Otterbein atop the conference standings.
