Box Score
The John Carroll women's basketball team are finding the road a bit weary these days, as the third consecutive Saturday on the road was met with a third consecutive conference loss, this time by a 77-57 score to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears at the ONU Sports Center in Ada.
The Blue Streaks stayed close early in the game. Junior Alex D'Amico made a pair of three-pointers to keep JCU in the mix -- one at the 17:59 mark to take a 5-4 lead, and another with 14:24 showing on the clock to tie the game 12-12.
Starting with an Alisha Rinehart lay-up on the next possession, the Polar Bears began to take command. Ohio Northern outscored John Carroll by a 32-12 margin over the final 14 minutes of the first half to take a 44-24 lead into intermission.
In the second half of play, the Blue Streaks were able to narrow their deficit to 12 points, but that would be as close as they would get as the Polar Bears won for the sixth time in seven games.
Turnovers were crucial in this game. In the first half, the Blue Streaks commited 11 and ended the game with 21 turnovers. Ohio Northern had 25 points off of turnovers compared to only four for JCU.
The turnover statistic was amplified by the fact that John Carroll finished the afternoon with a better field goal shooting percentage (.423) than the host school (.397).
The leading scorer for Ohio Northern (7-2, 3-1 OAC) was Erin Brand with 17 points, while Rinehart ended up with her first career double-double by grabbing 13 boards to go with 14 points.
John Carroll (2-5, 0-3 OAC), which has now dropped four games in a row, was led by D'Amico with 11 points, while Rachael Price and Whitney Hamilton both chipped in with 10 points. Caitlin Sureck finished with the most rebounds for the Streaks with 12.
Newcomer Lianna Jennings played 18 minutes in her JCU basketball debut, scoring seven points.
