John Carroll did not have to wait as long as a year ago to record its first win of the season, as the Blue Streaks scored all of its goals in the first 55 minutes of the match to cruise to a 5-0 victory over Bridgewater in the second round of the Domino's Classic hosted by Roanoke College at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.
The Blue Streaks were winless in their first 11 matches of 2006, but left little doubt that, in their second match of the season, September 1st would be the date of its first victory in 2007.
After Louis Kastelic opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 10th minute, Kastelic would set up the second goal of the match by Alex Bernot for a 2-0 JCU lead after just 17 minutes of play.
The opening of the second half would turn into the Scott McKinney show, as the junior made his second game as a Blue Streak a memorable one. He would score three consecutive goals in a span of 170 seconds. The first was a rebound of his own shot at the 51:16 mark, the second was from a Bernot assist at 52:40, and the third was from David Hickey to complete the hat trick.
Ben Carro made six saves for the win.
John Carroll and Roanoke staged a physical match in the opening round of the Domino's Classic Friday at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.
JCU was able to play evenly with the host Maroons, as each team was credited with eight shots apiece, including four on goal by both squads.
Trouble was, Roanoke's Kayvon Sarmadi was the only one who found the back of the net with his shots, sending John Carroll to a 2-0 defeat in its season-opening match.
Sarmadi chipped in a 15-foot shot at the 30:45 mark in the opening half for the first goal, then iced the game with a header off a deflection in the second half.
