John Carroll junior Lauren Wilson punched in a goal from 25 yards out in the 11th minute, and the score held up as the Blue Streaks won their home opener by a 1-0 count this afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.

Senior Cara Pizzurro started the play when she took a run down the wing and passed to freshman Aleks Quenneville, who in turn found Wilson. After Wilson received the pass from Quenneville, she stepped around a defender and launched a shot into the upper right hand corner at the 10:08 mark of the opening period.

Although Oberlin held a slight advantage in shots taken (9-8), JCU sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Humphries was more than equal to the task. In her first collegiate start, Humphries made six saves and did not allow a goal in picking up both her first win and shutout.

John Carroll is now 2-3 on the year, while Oberlin falls to 2-3-1.
