box scores: vs. RIT / vs. Allegheny
Don't blame the Blue Streaks if they are sporting attire that reads "I played 185 minutes of soccer last weekend in Rochester and all I got was this t-shirt."
Although not for lack of effort, the John Carroll women's soccer team had little to show for their efforts at the Rachel Miller Invitational hosted by the Rochester Institute of Rochester on Saturday and Sunday. In the opening round on Saturday morning, host RIT downed the Blue Streaks by a 2-1 score. Allegheny followed suit with a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon in a game that went five minutes deep into overtime.
Emily Traversi would be the hero for the host school, as her goal in the 49th minute broke a 1-1 tie and sent Rochester Institute of Technology to a 2-1 win over John Carroll in the opening round of the 2007 Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament at RIT Field on Saturday morning.
RIT scored first in the match, putting in the first point on a rebound from a corner kick. JCU sophomore Elizabeth Daigler would counter three minutes later, when she rebounded her own shot for her first collegiate goal on a breakaway to even the score.
It was an eerily similar pattern Sunday. Allegheny struck first with a goal in the 71st minute, but less than three minutes later, the Blue Streaks struck back. Freshman Betsy Haigh scored her first collegiate goal in the 74th minute.
The Gators would laugh last however, as in the 95th minute, junior Katie Murphy would end matters with her first goal of the year.
JCU keeper #Michelle Zrebiec made 12 saves against Allegheny -- the most by a Blue Streak since Karen Moebius stopped 14 shots against Scranton on September 24, 2005.
