Tough Night At The Office For Women's Basketball As High Energy Heidelberg Puts An End To Winning Streak

In a match-up of high energy versus low energy, high energy won out as visiting Heidelberg put an emphatic end to John Carroll's five game winning streak with a 66-49 triumph at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
 
Playing an Ohio Athletic Conference opponent for the third time in five days, the Blue Streaks simply could not stay with an energetic Berg squad Wednesday evening. John Carroll was outscored by a 35-17 margin over the final 20 minutes after taking a one-point lead into the intermission.
 
It was the Amanda Campbell show early on, as the senior scored Heidelberg's first 14 points. John Carroll, however, stayed right with the 'Berg for the entire first half. Trailing by four points with 2:52 to play, JCU would close out the opening period with a 9-4 burst. Lianna Jennings used a three-point play with three seconds left to give John Carroll a 32-31 lead going into the locker room.
 
The second half however, would be all Heidelberg. John Carroll hit only two shots from the field and committed eight turnovers in the first 11 minutes of the second half.  
 
Heidelberg on the other hand, scored would steadily build a nine-point lead. Although the Berg scored just 16 points in those first 11 minutes, JCU managed just six
 
Once Heidelberg seized control, there would be no turning back as JCU could only get to within eight points on two occasions the remainder of the game.
 
In the decisive second half, Heidelberg was 13-28 (.464) from the field while John Carroll was 7-29 (.241).
 
Heidelberg (6-6, 2-4 OAC), which snapped a mild two-game losing streak, was paced by Campbell's double. She scored 20 points (18 in the first half) and pulled down 10 rebounds. Brittany Skolnicki added 12 points while Jenny Miller had eight points and 10 rebounds to match Campbell's team high.
 
The Berg also dominated the board, 52-37.
 
John Carroll (7-6, 2-4 OAC) was paced by Jennings, who finished with 17 points. Caitlin Sureck added 13 and Rachael Price contributed 12 as the Blue Streaks lost for the first time in 2008.
 
The JCU bench had a tough night, as it was outscored 25-0 by its Heidelberg counterparts and went a collective 0-14 from the field.
