The Blue Streaks had been playing a man down since the 40th minute of the opening period, yet managed to match Wilmington shot-for-shot.

The game winning goal was set up when the Quakers committed a foul about 25 yards out with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation. The head referee stopped the clock with ten seconds left when a Wilmington player refused to move away from the ball with time ticking down.

McKinney took the free kick that blasted its way through the crowd of Blue Streaks and Quakers. After the ball took a quick hop, it bounded off Wilmington keeper Aaron Slusher. The ball then proceeded to roll slowly over the goal line before anyone else could get to it.

The goal was mcKinney's team-leading ninth of the season. He has scored the last three goals for JCU, including two game winners.

Matt DeMarchi made five saves for the shutout in what was John Carrol's final regular season home match of the 2008 campaign.

John Carroll is now 9-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the OAC. Wilmington falls to 9-7-1 and 2-4-1 in league play.
