John Carroll was on its way to an upset of Mount Union Tuesday night when the tide turned against the visiting Blue Streaks.
The result was a tough luck five-set loss that denied John Carroll an opportunity for its first upper division finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference since 2002.
After JCU won the first two games (25-17, 26-24), Mount Union would rally to win the final three (25-17, 25-21, 15-13) to claim the victory.
Kristen Kidd, who led the way for John Carroll with 16 kills, was joined in double figures in the kills category by Meagan Gambone (11), Laura Isbell (11) and MaryEileen Dalton (10). Gina Imbrigiotta led all players with 28 digs.
Mount Union is now 23-8 overall and 6-3 in the OAC following the win, while JCU slips to 17-11 overall and 3-5 in the league.
With one regular season match remaining, the Blue Streaks can wrap up the #6 seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament with a win over Marietta Friday.
