Caitlyn Walton delivered the biggest goal of the season to date for the Blue Streaks in dramatic fashion against Capital
Box Score
John Carroll fashioned a dramatic overtime win Friday night at Don Shula Stadium, as Caitlyn Walton blasted a shot from 25 yards out in the 97th minute to deliver a 1-0 victory for the Blue Streaks in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener against two-time defending league tournament champion Capital University.
After an even first half that ended deadlocked at 0-0, Capital began to dictate play in the second half. Michelle Zrebiec made a few clutch saves to keep the Crusaders off the scorebaord despite holding a 9-2 edge in shots taken and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks after 90 minutes of regulation time.
John Carroll began to turn the tables in the waning minutes of the second period, and controlled play in the overtime. Besty Haigh, who has made a few dramatic goals of her own so far this season, dribbed the ball down the left side as the clock dipped below four minutes to play in the extra session. She found senior Lauren Wilson, who slipped a short pass to Walton moving to the top of the box, where the junior forward unloaded a low line shot for her sixth goal of the 2008 campaign. With the win, John Carroll moves to 8-1-2 on the year to mark the best 11-game start in program history. The 1999 Blue Streaks were 8-2-1 through the first 11 games of that season.
Capital falls to 5-3-2 with the loss.
