After dropping game one, JCU rallied back to win the next three for a 21-25 25-21 25-22 25-13 win.

Games two and three proved pivotal, as the Blue Streaks stormed back late in both to set up the game four rout.

Marietta opened the match on a 7-1 run, which provided enough cushion to withstand several Blue Streaks attempts to come back. Marietta rattled off the final two points to take the first game by a score of 25-21.

Game two was a back-and-forth affair which saw John Carroll win five of the final six points for a 25-21 win that evened the match. Senior Katie Hastings had a big block to give JCU the first point after a Marietta timeout, which pushed the momentum and set the Streaks up for the win.

The dogfight continued in game three, with sophomore setter Meredith McDiarmid serving well in the latter stages to helkp John Carroll rally from 20-18 down to win, 25-22.

The Pioneers struggled in game four as the Blue Streaks ran out to an 18-9 lead. The Pioneers would score four consecutive points to pull to within five points at 18-13, but then JCU -- behind the serving of freshman Kristen Kidd -- scored the final seven points for a 25-13 win that closed out the match.

Senior Meagan Gambone, playing in her final game at the Tony DeCarlo Center, led the team with 16 kills, five of which game in the crucial third game. Fellow senior Katie Hastings had a team-high six blocks, including three solo stops.

With the loss, Marietta is now eliminated from playoff competition.

John Carroll enters the playoffs as a number sixth seed. They will play either Mount Union or Muskingum. Both teams defeated the Blue Streaks this year in five games.
