John Carroll has won a few games this season on goals late in regulation. Tuesday night in Alliance, Ohio, the tables were turned on the Blue Streaks.
A goal by Deidre Dick with 25 seconds left to play in the second half lifted the host Mount Union Purple Raiders to a 2-1 victory It was only the second loss of the season for John Carroll, and its first since September 13.
JCU took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when rookie Colleen Harmon broke through with her first career goal. Mount Union, however, snapped John Carroll's run of shutouts with a goal in the 29th minute of play. The Blue Streaks had not surrendered a goal since September 20 in the first minute of the second half of a 1-1 tie at Grove City -- a span of three full matches and over 350 minutes of playing time.
John Carroll held a 20-10 edge in shots and put 13 shots on goal against MUC keeper Kaitlyn Mallernee, who stopped 12 of them in preserving the win for the Purple Raiders.
Mount Union improved to 4-6-1 and 1-1 in the OAC, while John Carroll fell to 8-2-2 and 1-1 in league play.
