Mike Pinter held together a defense minus a few regulars Saturday against Muskingum
Box Score
John Carroll had nothing truly to gain in its regular season road match at Saturday, but it also didn't want to head into the postseason on a losing note.
Lacking some starters, and perhaps some true motivation, the Blue Streaks suffered just their second shutout loss of 2008 in a 1-0 setback at Muskingum Saturday afternoon in New Concord.
Without the likes of Scott McKinney, Jake Milli, Ryan Ricart and Kyle Buxman, JCU still hoped to gather some momentum heading into next week's Ohio Athletic Conference tournament. The Blue Streaks had already locked down the #2 seed in the playoff field, and could not improve upon that regardless of outcome.
Muskingum, which was playing for the right to qualify for the tournament, did its part when Drew Untied scored the lone goal in the match off a corner kick.
Both teams fired 15 shots and held a 6-2 corner kicks edge.
JCU finishes the regular season with a record of 9-5-3 and 5-2-2 in the OAC.
The Blue Streaks will host the winner of the match between #4 seed Marietta and #5 seed Heidelberg (to be played Monday) on Wednesday, November 5, at Shula Stadium beginning at 2:00 pm in the semifinal round of the OAC Tournament. As the #2 seed, the Blue Streaks receive a bye through the quarterfinal round.
