John Carroll scored the first nine points of its game on Saturday against Marietta College and never looked back in breaking a four-game losing streak with a 93-65 victory over the host Pioneers in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest staged in Marietta, Ohio.
Rudy Kirbus and Maurice Haynes II accounted for all nine points over the first two-and-a-half minutes to stake the Blue Streaks to a 9-0 lead.
Kirbus would later push John Carroll's lead to double figures when he made a three-point field goal with 11:55 left in the opening half that put the score at 20-10 in favor oif the Blue Streaks.
JCU would lead by as many as 20 points in the first half before taking a 48-29 lead into the locker room.
The Blue Streaks' lead never dropped below 18 points over the course of the entire second half.
John Carroll (11-11, 8-8 OAC), which won for the first time since a 76-62 victory over Muskingum on January 30, was led by 17 points from Kirbus. The sophomore forward surpassed 500 points for his career during this game.
Joining Kirbus in double figures were John Curran with 13, Haynes with 12, and both Donte Ledwell and TJ DiSanto with ten points. JCU was 35-57 (.614) from the field, and 7-12 (.583) from three-point range for the game.
Marietta (6-17, 2-14 OAC) was paced by a game-high 21 points from Isaiah Creasap.
