Box Score
The bad news for John Carroll from Saturday afternoon's showdown with Ohio Northern was that the final score was decidedly in the Polar Bears favor.
The good news is that the Blue Streaks will have an entire month to build from this 7-2 setback before possibly facing Ohio Northern again in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.
In the OAC opener for John Carroll (ONU had already played two league matches) played at Paramount Racquet Club in Medina, Ohio, the match began with the Polar Bears winning two of the three doubles matches. John Carroll's victory came in the #2 match as Amy Marchlen and Anna Navatsyk prevailed by an 8-3 score over Ashley Yontz and Betsy Birchler.
Ohio Northern took over the match in singles play by claiming five of a possible six points. Only Navatsyk produced a win for John Carroll, outlasting Liz Bajusz by score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Sara Crane battled well with Jacqueline Sammons in the #1 singles match, falling in a third set tiebreaker 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
The other four singles matches won by the Polar Bears were in straight sets.
John Carroll, which had its modest two-match winning streak snapped, is now 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Ohio Northern, which has now won three in a row and six of last seven matches, improved to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in league action.
