Box Score
Appropriately enough on senior day, John Carroll's two seniors played large roles in a decisive 8-1 victory over the visiting Marietta College Pioneers that concluded the Blue Streak's regular season home schedule Thursday afternoon at the Belvoir Blvd. Courts.
John Carroll jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, then swept all six singles matches to improve to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Seniors Sara Crane and Allison Balestrino won handily by an 8-1 score at #2 doubles, while freshman Ashley Bauer and sophomore Hilary Fulp cruised to an 8-3 win at #3 doubles.
JCU won five of the six singles matches in straight sets, including a decisive 6-0 6-0 win by Balestrino in her final home singles match at the #4 slot.
The most entertaining match of the afternoon involved Crane. After winning the first set (6-3) against Amanda Carraher in the #1 singles duel, Carraher rebounded to take the second set by a 6-4 count. The match would be decided by a tiebreaker, in which Crane came out on top 10-6 to hand Carraher her first loss of the season.
