After going toe-to-toe with perennial power Muskingum on Saturday, the Blue Streaks displayed a new brand of confidence Monday by using dominant pitching to sweep the College of Wooster on the road in a non-conference doubleheader.

Laura Boselovic hurled a six-hit shutout for her first victory of the 2008 campaign in a 6-0 game one win, while Ashley Lippert and Sam Thompson combined to pitch a two-hitter in what turned out to be a 3-1 triumph in game two.

Boselovic did her part on the mound, while Jamie Smrdel would do the majority of the damage at the plate. In the third inning, Smrdel delivered a bases-clearing single to put JCU ahead 3-0. One inning later, Smrdel punched a two-out double that scored Jennifer Marlowe and Tricia Kuenzig, who both had singled earlier in the inning.

Smrdel finished the game 3-3 with a season-high five RBI.

Boselovic scattered six hits over seven innings with out any hit going for extra bases. She struck out four and walked just two in improving to 1-2 on the season.

In the second game, JCU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and coasted from there. Marlowe and Kuenzig started out the game with back-to-back singles, then came home on a Bethany Bachman double to score the game's first two runs.

Denya Fanelli would follow with a fourth consecutive hit, singling home Bachman.

JCU would collect five more hits the rest of the way but would not score any more runs. That meant the pitching would be key, and both Lippert and Thompson came through in a big way.

Lippert allowed just two hits, and was in trouble on only one occasion. In the fourth inning, she allowed her only run and still had two base runners to deal with with one out. However, Lippert was able to get two swinging strikeouts to end the threat.

Thompson worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to pick up her second save of the season.

With the sweep, John Carroll improves to 9-13 on the year while Wooster drops to 11-13. The Blue Streaks are now 7-3 in their last ten games after starting out the 2008 campaign 2-10.
