Caitlyn Walton put JCU in the win column with her goal in the 80th minute against Allegheny
Box Score
Rochester area resident Caitlyn Walton made her "homecoming" all the more sweet by scoring the only goal of Saturday's match to help John Carroll defeat Allegheny, 1-0, in the first day of competition at the Rachel Miller Classic.
This is the second connsecutive year in which John Carroll has participated in the two-day, four-team tournament which is being hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. The 2007 tournament tournament does not harbor many fond memories for the Blue Streaks, however, as JCU fell in both matches last year.
Walton, who hails from Fairport, New York -- which is less than 20 miles away from the RIT campus -- made sure the 2008 tournament would start on a more favorable note. In the 80th minute, she drove a long shot over the head of the Allegheny keeper for the winning score.
The goal marked the 12th score in Walton's career.
Senior Michelle Zfrebiec made three saves to post her ninth career shutout.
John Carroll (1-0) will play host RIT (0-1) on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. to conslude its participation in the Rachel Miller Classic.
