Katie Porta (#8) watches as Caitlyn Walton (#10) turns her pass into John Carroll's second goal against Albion
Box Score
Up until today, the John Carroll University women's soccer team had not surrendered a goal let alone a game in the 2008 season. All that would change Saturday afternoon against Albion College.
Despite being outshot, the visiting Britons rallied from a 2-1 deficit to stun the Blue Streaks 3-2 in double overtime.
Albion sophomore Kelly Stetser won the game for the Britons when she followed in a free kick from junior Tracy Yoshikawa on the right side and put in the winning goal near the left post. Stetser's goal came at the 4:24 mark of the second overtime after a foul was called against JCU about 25 yards away from the goal.
JCU led early in the contest, when junior Caitlyn Walton scored her third goal of the season on a long ball that found the upper right corner less than five minutes into the contest.
It would be fourteen minutes later when the Britons would first strike. Junior Ali Oatley launched her second goal of the season as she outran the JCU defense to a thru ball from freshman Rachel Kain. Oatley became the first opponent to score on the Blue Streak defense this year as JCU had allowed zero goals in the previous five matches -- a span of 488 minutes.
However, the Blue Streaks would go into halftime with the lead. Walton scored her fourth goal of the season on a free kick just outside of the box with just over 12 minutes remaining. Senior Katie Porta assisted on the goal.
Yoshikawa would score the only goal of the second half, off a pass from Oatley at the 31:37 mark. It would tie the game, and leave a score that would remain until Stetser's winning goal in the second overtime.
The Blue Streaks outshot Albion, 17-7, and had four corner kicks to the Britons' one. Walton, who scored the Blue Streaks two goals, led all players with six shots. Yoshikawa led Albion with two.
Senior goalkeeper Michelle Zrebiec logged two saves for the Blue Streaks. Albion's Caitlin Bowman had three.
With the loss, JCU falls to 4-1-1. Albion is now at the .500 mark, with a 2-2-0 record.
