John Carroll had to come from behind in its final match of the two-day Carnegie-Mellon Crossover Tournament to leave Pittsburgh with an even record of two wins and two losses.
On their final match of the day Saturday, the Blue Streaks trailed Rochester Institute of Technology two games to one. In game four, JCU had to rally beyond regulation time to win 28-26. In the fifth and deciding frame, John Carroll rolled to a 15-9 victory to take the match.
As play began Friday, John Carroll split the first two sets before falling to Johns Hopkins, 25-22, 13-25, 25-22, 25-19. The Streaks rebounded with a convincing win over Allegheny. After dropping the first game, they rolled to a 15-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 victory.
Prior to its thriller with RIT, John Carroll was engaged in another five-game thriller with host Carnegie-Mellon. In a reversal of the RIT match, JCU held a lead after three games before falling by a 25-14, 22-25, 26-28, 25-18, 15-13 count to the Tartans.
John Carroll is now 11-6 on the season -- one win shy of its 2007 victory total. The Carnegie-Mellon Crossover Tournament was the last in-season tournament in which John Carroll will participate.
