Box Scores: vs. Geneva / vs. Ursuline / vs. Kenyon / vs. Hiram
Considering that John Carroll opened the Hiram Invitational this weekend with a sweep over the eventual champion, the Blue Streaks must be wondering "what if" things had gone a little better the rest of the way.
JCU wound up splitting its four matches over the two days of the Hiram Invitational, defeating Geneva on Friday and Kenyon on Saturday while falling to Ursuline on Friday and Hiram on Saturday to finish fourth of the five teams.
The Geneva match was the first out of the gate for the Blue Streaks, and it was by far their most impressive performance. JCU posted a 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 victory to sweep a team that would go on to win its next three matches to claim the tournament title.
John Carroll looked on the way to another sweep when it captured the first two games of its match against Ursuline. However, the match would get away from the Blue Streaks as the Arrows marched all the way back to stun JCU, 24-26, 25-27, 25-15, 27-25, 15-13.
On Saturday afternoon, JCU made quick work of hapless Kenyon, dropping just 33 points in sweeping the Ladies, 25-11, 25-8, 25-14.
In their final match, the Blue Streaks claimed game one from the host school, but then dropped the next three in falling to Hiram, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19.
Senior Meagan Gambone was the Blue Streaks representative on the Hiram Invitational all-tournament team.
