Streaks Get Rolling In Second Half To Subdue Marietta

Betsy Haigh scored the first goal and the game winner Wednesday against Marietta

On some occasions, halftime is a welcome respite. On other occasions, halftime is an unwelcome break.

John Carroll found itself somewhere in the middle at Marietta on Wednesday, as an unsatisfying first 45 minutes gave way to a second 45 minutes that was dominated by the visting Blue Streaks. Three second half goals led to a 4-1 JCU victory that evened the Streaks' league record.

The two teams exchanged goals in the first half. In the 13th minute, John Carroll got on the board first when Betsy Haigh seized on a deflected pass to put in her second goal of the year.

Danielle Staub answered in the 26th minute when she chased after Christina Tirpak's shot that hit the crossbar. That left the score tied at 1-1 at the break.

JCU dominated in the second half by outshooting Marietta, 14-4. but it would be a 14 minute stretch midway through the period that decided the match. Haigh scored her second goal of the day in the 62nd minute, after which Colleen Harmon (73rd minute) and Amanda Buxton (76th minute) would follow her into the net to break things wide open.

John Carroll improved to 4-6-2 overall and 1-1 OAC, while Marietta drops to 2-8-2 and 0-1-1 in the OAC.
