John Carroll won five of the nine bouts actually contested, but the math worked against the Blue Streaks Tuesday night in Berea as the host Yellow Jackets maximized their opportunities to produce a rare 25-20 victory in the final regular season dual meet for both squads.

The win was just the second for Baldwin-Wallace in the 30 meetings between the two Cleveland area rivals in the sport of wrestling.

The night could not have got off to any better of a start for the Blue Streaks. Other than a forfeit at 133 pounds, John Carroll rolled through the lower weights. A pin (and 20th win of the season) by Connor Suba at 149 and decisions by Greg Stolfer at 125, David Malkus at 141 and Vinny Pizzuli at 157 staked the visitors to a 15-6 lead.

But a subtle turning point occured at 165 when Baldwin-Wallace's Korey Leonhard earned the Yellow Jackets' first three points on the mat when he edged Sean Gill, 3-2.

The arithmetic turned against JCU from that point. Two pins and a major decision offset Ben Adams' technical fall win at 184. John Carroll's five wins amounted to 20 points, while Baldwin-Wallace -- which earned six points each at 133, 174 and 197 -- accrued 25.

The injury-plagued JCU squad, which lost seven of its projected starters over the course of the year, ends its regular season with a record of 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the OAC. This season marks the first losing record for the Blue Streaks in league dual meets since joining the OAC, and the first in any conference since John Carroll went 3-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference in 1965-66.
