Digging an early hole against a nationally ranked opponent proved to be a too much to overcome Thursday afternoon for the John Carroll baseball team.

In the opening day of play at the Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at Peaceful Valley in Tiffin, Ohio, the #17 ranked Marietta College Pioneers scored twice in the first inning and four more times in the second on their way to a 13-4 win.

Box Score

John Carroll simply could not slow down the Marietta offense, which pounded out 17 hits and scored at least one run in every inning but the third and the eighth.

The Blue Streaks scored once in the third inning and three times in the ninth. Freshman catcher Aaron Miller had two hits and drove in two runs for JCU.

John Carroll will face Muskingum in an elimination game Friday at 12:30 pm. The winner will stay alive in the double elimination tournament and would face either Heidelberg or Marietta at 3:30 p.m.
